Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, has stated that the July-August uprising of students and the public has firmly established that Bangladesh will not be governed by any external influence or ideology-based politics. He emphasized that the people of Bangladesh are united in their commitment to a “Bangladesh-centric” approach, free from foreign dominance.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Gulshan on Thursday, Salahuddin said, “Through the blood-soaked uprising of July-August, it has been established that we are all Bangladesh-centric. No external forces can dominate Bangladesh, and no politics based on any ideology will prevail here. This has been firmly established.”
He expressed the desire for a democratic process that reflects the will of the people, leading to a strong, equitable, and justice-based Bangladesh free from discrimination. He stressed that this is the aspiration of the martyrs and a commitment that all political parties must fulfill. “We don’t want any political party to operate in Bangladesh based on any ideology, and the people don’t expect that either,” he added.
Salahuddin highlighted the need to create a conducive environment for elections by ensuring law and order and recovering illegal arms. He called for a robust operation to seize illegal weapons, particularly from banned organizations like Chhatra League and other fallen fascist groups. “If these illegal arms remain in the field, these fascist forces could attempt to create chaos during elections. This cannot be ignored,” he warned.
He urged the interim government, law enforcement, and security forces to conduct a joint operation to recover illegal arms systematically. “This will bring relief to the public. While such efforts may be underway, they are not sufficiently visible. A stronger approach is needed,” he said, adding that this has always been a demand of his party.
