Truck Carrying TCB Products Seized in Savar, Driver Arrested

The arrested driver, Mohammad Liton Mia (39), is the son of Amir Hossain from Naria Thana, Shariatpur district.
In Savar’s Birulia Union, Kaliaikair area, a truck carrying Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) products meant for subsidized distribution to smart family cardholders and the general public was seized while being smuggled. The truck driver was arrested by locals and handed over to the police.

On Tuesday (August 12) at dawn, the TCB product-laden truck was seized, and the driver was arrested. According to sources, in the Kaliaikair area of Savar’s Birulia Union, locals intercepted a TCB truck (Dhaka Metro-Na-17-3783) carrying subsidized goods (edible oil, sugar, and lentils) meant for smart family cardholders and the general public. The truck was being smuggled when locals seized it and handed it over to the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka District (North) police. The DB team then arrested the driver and confiscated the goods and the truck. The arrested driver is Mohammad Liton Mia (39), son of Amir Hossain from Naria Thana, Shariatpur district. The seized items include 30 sacks of flour, 16 sacks of sugar, 27 sacks of lentils, and 100 cartons of soybean oil. Local sources revealed that a syndicate, including TCB dealer Mohammad Atik, was attempting to smuggle these government-subsidized goods from a warehouse at Rajashon Al-Amin School in Savar Municipality’s Ward No. 8, instead of distributing them to the public. Locals seized the truck and driver and contacted the emergency helpline 999, after which the Dhaka District (North) DB police arrested the driver and confiscated the goods. Allegations have been raised that Savar Municipality’s Social Development Officer Al-Mamun and a syndicate linked to TCB’s Dhaka regional office are involved in this misconduct. Concerned citizens have urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and relevant authorities to investigate the matter. Savar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Municipal Administrator Mohammad Abu Bakar Sarkar told *Naya Diganta* that Savar Municipality is not involved in this incident in any way. He assured that if anyone is found to be involved, a thorough investigation will be conducted, and the strictest legal action will be taken. Efforts to contact Savar Municipality’s Social Development Officer Al-Mamun, associated with TCB, via multiple phone calls and text messages went unanswered. Inspector Mohammad Jalal Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Dhaka North Detective Branch (DB) police, stated at noon that a case is being processed in connection with the incident, and an investigation is underway to identify those involved
