Two Arrested in Anowara for Rape Allegations Involving Job Offer Lure

In Anowara Upazila, Chittagong, two individuals have been arrested following allegations of raping a young woman under the pretense of offering her a job. The victim filed a case, and police operations to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.

According to the case filed with the police, the victim, a young woman from Putiakhali village in Jhalakathi’s Rajapur Thana, arrived at her uncle’s house in Chittagong on July 31 to search for employment. While visiting various establishments, she met Enamul Haque, alias Ripon (27), son of the late Abdul Khaleque from Uttar Paruapara village in Raipur Union, who introduced himself as an employee of Youngone Garments.

The victim alleged that on August 4, Enamul lured her to the EPZ area under the pretext of discussing a job opportunity. After wandering around, he took her to a polythene shed near Harun’s farm in Boalia, Eidgaon, Anowara Upazila, where he forcibly raped her. Later that night, Enamul took her to his home, where his wife, suspecting something amiss, protested. The victim was then sent to spend the night at a neighbor’s house. The following morning, August 5, Enamul took the victim out again. On the way, Mohammad Saifuddin (34) and three unidentified individuals intercepted them and took the victim to the same shed, where she was allegedly gang-raped. Later, Enamul himself called the emergency helpline 999, prompting police to rescue the victim and detain him. A subsequent police operation led to Saifuddin’s arrest, while the other three suspects remain at large. Anowara Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Monir Hossain confirmed the incident, stating that the arrested individuals have been sent to judicial custody through the court. Efforts to apprehend the absconding suspects continue.
