Windows 10 Support Ends in October, but Microsoft Offers Alternatives

Microsoft has introduced alternative options for Windows 10 users as the operating system’s support nears its end. After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide software updates for Windows 10. While urging users to upgrade to Windows 11, the company has also launched an alternative solution for those who wish to continue using Windows 10. Microsoft announced that users meeting specific conditions can use Windows 10 on their current computers for an additional year at no cost.

Microsoft has introduced the Extended Security Updates (ESU) service for Windows 10, allowing users to receive security updates for an annual fee of $30. Additionally, users can continue using Windows 10 for free for one year by fulfilling certain requirements. This includes earning at least 1,000 points through the Microsoft Rewards program or backing up their computer data to the Windows Cloud. To earn Microsoft Rewards points, users need a Microsoft account and can accumulate points by using the Bing search engine, shopping at the Microsoft Store, playing Xbox games, or completing other designated tasks. However, earning 1,000 points is not an easy task and requires consistent and active participation.
To avail of the free support option, users must redeem their points for the service by October 2025. Alternatively, those opting for cloud backup can access up to 5GB of free storage provided by Microsoft. However, this storage capacity may not be sufficient for many users, potentially requiring the purchase of additional storage plans.
