A dark cloud has descended over the dream world of Indian Bengali cinema. Kolkata-based actress Anushka Moni Mohan Das, aged 41, has been arrested by police on charges of forcing newcomer actresses into prostitution. The arrest took place in Thane district, Maharashtra, with police sources revealing the shocking details on Friday, September 5, 2025.

According to Indian media, acting on a tip-off, police sent two decoy customers to contact the accused. On Wednesday, September 3, Anushka asked them to meet at a shopping mall in the Kashimira area near the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar) Madan Ballal stated, “Our team conducted a raid at the location. Anushka Moni Mohan Das was caught red-handed accepting money from the decoy customers. We also rescued two women who have acted in TV serials and Bengali films.” The rescued actresses have been sent to a safe shelter where they are receiving physical and psychological support. Ballal added that the investigation is ongoing to determine if others are involved in this crime syndicate. A case has been filed under Section 143(3) of the Indian Penal Code for human trafficking, along with provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. A review of Anushka Moni Mohan Das’s Instagram and Facebook accounts shows her identifying as a model-actress, Bollywood dance performer, and content creator. Also known as “Moon Das,” she has performed on stage with artists like Sunny Singh, Mika Singh, and Udit Narayan. Anushka has worked in Indian Bengali cinema, notably in the film *Loafer*, and her Facebook profile includes a photo with renowned Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee.
