Awami League Can Never Be Good, Shibir Leader Warns Jatiya Party Leader

Rangpur, September 6, 2025: Nurul Huda, the Rangpur metropolitan president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, issued a stern warning to Jatiya Party Co-Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa for his remarks about nominating “clean image” Awami League leaders. Speaking at a gathering after a Sirat Rally at the Press Club premises in Rangpur on Saturday afternoon, Huda criticized the idea of rehabilitating Awami League leaders.

Huda stated, “An autocrat can never be good. Have you ever heard of a ‘good devil’? Is there such a term? Can Awami League ever be good? Can anyone from them have a clean image? Those trying to rehabilitate autocrats by talking about ‘clean image’ should first look at their own house. The July movement’s people will no longer accept you.”

He accused Jatiya Party of enabling Awami League’s fascism over the past 15 years, claiming they provided legitimacy to their oppressive regime. “From Rangpur, where the July uprising began, over 2,000 lives were sacrificed. Do not show arrogance again. We warn you to restrain yourselves and save your own house first,” Huda added. Commenting on broader issues, he said, “We will not tolerate any injustice. In the post-July uprising era, we must seize this opportunity. Crimes reminiscent of the age of ignorance are still occurring—our sisters are being oppressed, and people are being killed in broad daylight. These problems stem from mob rule. We must follow the path and ideals shown by the Prophet (PBUH).” Earlier, a Sirat Rally was organized in Rangpur to mark the occasion of Siratunnabi, starting from Shapla Square and concluding at the Press Club after circling key city roads. Leaders and activists from various wards, colleges, and university branches of Chhatra Shibir participated. Other speakers included Chhatra Shibir’s central madrasa affairs secretary Alauddin Abir, Rangpur district president Firoz Mahmud Afridi, and metropolitan secretary Anisur Rahman.
The controversy stemmed from a statement by Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, who, during a meeting with Jatiya Party leaders from eight Rangpur division districts, expressed willingness to nominate “clean image” Awami League supporters without criminal cases for elections. He argued that to address the party’s candidate shortage, such individuals would be considered if they joined Jatiya Party and met the criteria. However, Jatiya Party’s central executive committee office secretary, MA Rajjak Khan, issued a press release rejecting Mostafa’s statement, clarifying that it was his personal opinion and he had no authority to make such claims.
