Consideration of Deploying Bangladeshi and Saudi Troops in Ukraine Buffer Zone
The United States may lead the monitoring of a proposed buffer zone or security area in Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached between Ukraine and Russia. Troops from countries like Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia could be deployed in this buffer zone, according to a report by Reuters, citing NBC News. The report states that the buffer zone would be established across a large civilian area to protect Ukraine from potential future Russian attacks. At least four sources familiar with the plan confirmed to NBC News that troops from non-NATO countries, such as Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, might be deployed in this zone. The report was published on Friday.
In a separate report, NBC News noted that U.S. President Donald Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress in ending the conflict or arranging a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine. Last month, Trump welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin at a high-level meeting in Alaska. However, there has been no public indication that Moscow is willing to soften its conditions or agree to a meeting.
Reuters was unable to immediately verify the report’s authenticity. The White House did not respond to requests for comment outside regular office hours, according to Reuters.
