The organization named ‘July Revolutionary Alliance’ has released a new list regarding the number of individuals killed during the July mass uprising, claiming that 914 people were martyred. Additionally, they stated that information on over 600 more martyrs is in their possession but has not yet been included in the list.
The list was unveiled during a press conference held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in front of the National Museum in Shahbag, Dhaka. The written statement was presented by the organization’s convener Saleh Mahmud Raihan, spokesperson Fantasir Mahmud, and senior joint convener Ahmad Samran.
The alliance stated that the list was compiled based on information from reliable sources, including martyrs listed in the government gazette. However, they noted that the list is not comprehensive, with over 600 applications for martyr recognition still pending from families. The organization gathered data from national and local newspapers, NGOs, area-based lists, social media, interviews with martyrs’ families, and a publication by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to the written statement, casualties occurred in at least 54 locations across the country, including the capital, during the July uprising. The highest number of deaths were caused by police and APBN gunfire, followed by shootings attributed to the banned Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League. The third highest number of casualties resulted from BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) gunfire.
The press conference also highlighted that the ‘July Revolutionary Alliance’ and ‘Bangladesh Protest Archive’ collaborated in compiling the list. They demanded the resignation of BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.
Spokesperson Fantasir Mahmud alleged, “Despite the horrific massacre during the July revolution, no justice has been served. The interim government has taken no steps in this regard. As a result, the minimum dignity of the martyrs’ blood has not been ensured, setting a dangerous precedent that massacres go unpunished, and perpetrators can escape freely.
