Former State Minister Tajul Islam Shown Arrested in July Uprising Murder Case

Captain (retd) AB Tajul Islam, former state minister for Liberation War Affairs in the ousted Awami League government, has been shown arrested in a murder case related to the death of Salahuddin Sumon during the July Uprising in Khilgaon Police Station area.

On Monday (September 8, 2025), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq's court approved the police's application to show him arrested. The application was filed by Khilgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Muhammad Asadur Rahman, the investigating officer, on September 2. The court had scheduled the hearing for September 8.

Around 10:30 AM, Tajul Islam was brought to the court under police custody, wearing a helmet, bulletproof vest, and handcuffs. After the hearing, he was formally shown arrested in this murder case. Additional Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon confirmed this information.
According to the case allegations, on July 19 last year, victim Salahuddin Sumon participated in the anti-discrimination movement in the Khilgaon area under Khilgaon Police Station in the capital. During this time, he was shot by the accused and died on the spot. The victim's wife filed the murder case, naming former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina among the accused.
