Hefazat-e-Islam Holds Massive Rally at Suhrawardy Udyan with Four-Point Demands

Dhaka, May 3, 2025 – A massive gathering organized by Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh took place at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Saturday, drawing thousands of leaders and activists to press their four-point demands. 

The rally, which began in the morning and continued until 1 PM, saw a significant turnout from across the country, with participants converging on the venue in processions from various parts of Dhaka and beyond.

The event, chaired by Hefazat-e-Islam’s Amir Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari, featured speeches from top leaders and prominent Islamic scholars. The rally was marked by a strong presence of supporters, with roads leading to Suhrawardy Udyan and all entry points crowded with activists. Processions poured in from areas such as Shahbag, Motijheel, Nilkhet, Jatrabari, Kalabagan, Farmgate, and Mohammadpur, as well as from distant districts and upazilas, with participants arriving by buses and trucks.
Hefazat-e-Islam called for people from all walks of life, regardless of political or professional affiliations, to join the rally. The organization’s four-point demands include:
Abolition of the Women’s Reform Commission and its report.Reinstatement of full faith and trust in Allah in the Constitution, replacing pluralism.
Withdrawal of all cases filed against Hefazat leaders and activists, and justice for alleged mass killings, including the 2013 Shapla Chattar incident.
Government action to stop the “genocide and oppression” of Muslims in Palestine and India.
The rally has sparked significant attention, with Hefazat leaders warning of stricter programs if their demands are not met. The event was preceded by widespread mobilization efforts, including protests and solidarity marches across the country on Friday following Juma prayers.
