Israel Launches Massive Airstrikes Across Syria, Targeting Military Installations

International, May 3, 2025: In a significant escalation, Israel conducted a series of coordinated airstrikes across Syria on Friday night, targeting over 20 sites in what is being described as one of the largest military operations in recent times, according to Syrian state media and local sources.

The strikes hit military installations, air defense systems, and missile infrastructure in multiple regions, including southern Syria, areas near the capital Damascus, and northern provinces.

The Israeli military confirmed the operation, stating it targeted Syrian military facilities, air defense batteries, and surface-to-air missile infrastructure. Specific targets included areas around the villages of Mothbin and Izra in southern Daraa province, as well as Harasta and Al-Tal near Damascus, where over seven missiles struck. In northern Syria, strikes hit Shatha village in Hama province and a previously targeted air defense battalion in Latakia.
Syria’s state news agency, SANA, reported at least one civilian casualty in the Harasta strike. Syrian security sources, cited by Shafaq News, indicated that the attacks primarily focused on facilities used by Syrian intelligence units, which have recently been implicated in clashes in the Suweida region.
The strikes come amid heightened tensions following the collapse of the Assad regime in December 2024, with Israel intensifying its military operations to prevent strategic weapons from falling into the hands of rebel groups or other adversaries. No official response from the Syrian transitional government has been reported yet, raising concerns about the broader implications of the attacks on Syria’s fragile stability.
