Dhaka, May 3, 2025 :The Red Sea Gateway Terminal International (RSGT), a Saudi Arabia-based company, has officially launched full-scale gateway vessel operations at the Patenga Container Terminal in Chattogram Port. With an investment of approximately $60 million, RSGT marked the occasion by handling its first fully-fledged container vessel, named Maersk Chattogram, initiating comprehensive import and export activities.
As Bangladesh’s first privately-owned container terminal, RSGT Chattogram successfully completed trial operations prior to this milestone. The commencement of full operations is considered a significant achievement in the country’s maritime trade sector, according to the company.
RSGT Chattogram’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Erwin Hayes, stated, “Transitioning from trial to full operations is a crucial step for us. We aim to add a new dimension to Bangladesh’s maritime trade by providing world-class services.”
To enhance cargo inspection and processing efficiency, RSGT has installed a new scanner worth $3.5 million, capable of handling 150 containers per hour. Additionally, the company has invested $26 million in 14 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes and approximately $30 million in four ship-to-shore (STS) cranes to boost operational capacity. These infrastructural developments are expected to increase the terminal’s annual handling capacity from 250,000 TEUs to 600,000 TEUs by early 2026
