Dhaka, April 15: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) of Bangladesh has issued a new directive banning yarn imports from India through land ports. This decision is expected to strengthen the domestic textile industry.
According to industry experts, yarn imported from India was significantly cheaper, making it difficult for local manufacturers to compete. The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) had long urged the government to take action.
Following recommendations from the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission under the Ministry of Commerce, the NBR issued this directive. However, yarn imports via sea routes will still be permitted.
