A Dhaka court has ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant through Interpol against Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) regarding irregularities in plot allotments by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK).
On Sunday (April 27), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Ghalib issued the order following an application by the ACC.
ACC Assistant Director Aminul Islam stated that the commission had applied for an arrest warrant against Saima Wazed through Interpol. The court granted the application after a hearing.
Earlier, on April 10, the court had ordered arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina and Saima Wazed in a similar plot allotment corruption case. Additionally, on April 13, arrest warrants were issued against Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, Rehana’s daughter Tulip Siddiq, son Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, Azmina Siddiq, and 21 others in three separate cases related to the same allegations.
According to sources, the ACC filed eight separate charge sheets on January 12, 13, and 14, accusing Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Sharif Ahmed, the former private secretary to the Prime Minister Salauddin, and 14 officials of the National Housing and Public Works Ministry of irregularities in the allotment of 60 kathas of plots in Purbachal New Town Project. The allegations state that the accused, while holding high government positions, abused their authority to secure six plots in Sector 27, Road 203 of the Purbachal housing project, despite being ineligible, with dishonest intentions.
The cases were filed under Sections 161, 163, 164, 409, and 109 of the Penal Code, 1860, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
