Devastating Fire in Jessore Poultry Farm Destroys 45,000 Chickens

A massive fire broke out at the Afil Poultry Farm in Jessore, Bangladesh, on Friday (April 18) at around 2:00 PM. The blaze, which started in one of the farm’s sheds, quickly spread, resulting in the tragic loss of approximately 45,000 chickens.

According to farm manager Mofiz Uddin, the fire service was notified immediately after the fire was detected. Despite the efforts of the fire service, who battled the flames for around an hour and a half, the fire had already caused extensive damage. Not only were thousands of chickens lost, but electrical equipment and automated poultry processing machines were completely destroyed.

Mamunur Rashid, Assistant Director of Jessore Fire Service and Civil Defense, stated, "Upon receiving the report, we promptly dispatched units to the scene. Three units from Jessore Fire Service and two additional units from Monirampur worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control by 4:25 PM. While preliminary investigations suggest an electrical short circuit as the cause of the fire, we are still assessing other potential factors."

Farm authorities estimate the total financial loss to be around 12 crore Bangladeshi Taka. Fortunately, no human casualties have been reported.
