Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman ordered a two-day remand for former mayor Atiqul Islam in murder cases filed at Vatara and Jatrabari police stations.
Additionally, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak was placed on a two-day remand in a case filed at Badda police station, while former shipping minister Shajahan Khan was remanded for one day in a Jatrabari case.
Tanvir Hasan Saikat, a leader of the banned student organization Chhatra League's Dhaka University unit, was also remanded for two days.
Following the court's decision, they were taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) police. The investigation officer stated that the remand period would be used to collect information regarding the planning and execution of the alleged murders.
Additionally, 10 other individuals have been newly shown as arrested in various cases registered at Jatrabari, Uttara West, Kotwali, and Vatara police stations. During the court hearing, heated exchanges took place between government lawyers and Awami League members. The defense argued that their clients were not involved in the student protests and killings of July-August.
