Mohammadpur Katashur Canal Illegal Structure Eviction Drive

Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted an eviction drive to remove illegal structures and buildings from the Katashur canal in Mohammadpur. On Wednesday morning, the operation was led by DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz.

Addressing individuals and organizations who have constructed offices, mosques, and houses illegally on government land under the banner of political parties, the DNCC official emphasized that regardless of the party affiliation, the eviction drive against illegal structures would continue. He warned those still occupying public water bodies to vacate the land immediately.

The DNCC administrator further asserted that such anarchy in Bangladesh would no longer be tolerated, stating that the city corporation would also focus on managing sidewalks and auto-rickshaws to improve urban order.

Meanwhile, affected homeowners raised concerns about the short notice given before the eviction. They mentioned that they were notified only three days prior, leaving tenants with insufficient time to relocate. They urged the authorities to grant tenants at least seven days to arrange alternative accommodations.
