A devastating fire erupted at Delhi Haat, a popular market in South Delhi, India, on Wednesday night. The blaze started around 8:55 PM local time, rapidly spreading through the bustling marketplace. No casualties have been reported so far, according to initial updates.
As reported by NDTV, the fire broke out at the Delhi Haat market located in the INA area of South Delhi. The Delhi Fire Services deployed 12 fire engines to the scene to combat the flames. Local authorities estimate that 25 to 30 shops have been completely destroyed in the blaze. Videos from the site show thick black smoke billowing into the sky, creating a chaotic scene.
Delhi Haat, designed to replicate India’s rural markets, is a hub for artisans and vendors from across the country. The market houses numerous handicraft stalls and traditional food restaurants representing various Indian states. While the fire caused significant property damage, officials have confirmed no loss of life.
Efforts to control the fire are ongoing, and investigations into the cause of the blaze are expected to follow.
