A leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing, Chhatra Dal, was arrested in Durgapur upazila of Netrokona on Tuesday for allegedly raping his friend’s fiancée after framing the friend as a Chhatra League activist and having him detained by police. The accused, identified as Foysal Ahmed alias Durjoy, 24, has been expelled from Chhatra Dal following the incident.
Foysal, the joint convener of Durgapur upazila Chhatra Dal and a resident of Chandigarh village, was apprehended in the Birishiri area of Durgapur town on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, a third-year honors student at a college in Dhaka, was in a relationship with a third-year student from a college in Netrokona. The couple, whose families had recently finalized their engagement, had traveled to Durgapur for a visit on Monday.
According to Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Hasan, Foysal, who was a friend of the victim’s fiancé, invited the couple to stay at a hotel in Birishiri. On Tuesday afternoon, while the fiancé stepped out to buy food, Foysal allegedly contacted the police, falsely claiming that his friend was involved in Chhatra League politics, leading to the friend’s immediate detention.
Seizing the opportunity, Foysal entered the hotel room and raped the victim. When police, accompanied by the detained fiancé, arrived at the hotel room, they heard the victim’s screams and conducted a raid. The victim was rescued, and Foysal was arrested on the spot. The entire incident unfolded within approximately 30 minutes.
The victim filed a case against Foysal under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. He has been presented in court, and the surveil The victim was sent to Netrokona District Hospital for a medical examination.
Anik Mahbub Chowdhury, general secretary of Netrokona district Chhatra Dal, confirmed that Foysal has been expelled from the organization due to the allegations. He stated that the party will not take responsibility for an individual’s actions.
