International Desk: Qatar has agreed to renew the recently expired Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for LNG supply to Bangladesh and work on technical details for a proposed onshore LNG terminal in the country.
The commitment was made by Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, during a meeting with Bangladesh's Chief Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, on April 22 in Doha.
The MoU renewal follows a long-standing partnership between the two nations, including a 15-year LNG Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) signed in 2017 and another in 2023 for additional LNG supply starting in 2026.
Al Kaabi emphasized Qatar's dedication to supporting Bangladesh's energy needs, while Professor Yunus highlighted the importance of Qatar's assistance in restructuring Bangladesh's energy sector.
The meeting also discussed plans for increasing LNG cargo shipments and constructing an onshore LNG terminal in Cox's Bazar. Additionally, Qatar expressed interest in boosting urea fertilizer supply to Bangladesh.
