Technical students in Bangladesh, protesting for their six-point demands, have expressed dissatisfaction with discussions held with the Ministry of Education. Finding no visible steps taken to address their concerns, they have announced plans for stricter demonstrations.
On Thursday, April 17, a delegation of students held a three-hour meeting with Additional Secretary Rehana Yasmin of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division. However, the students stated they saw no concrete resolution and thus decided to escalate their movement.
According to student representatives, their protest has been ongoing for eight months, yet no effective action has been taken. They claim that the ministry has repeatedly wasted time without making any decisive moves to resolve the issues.
Among their six demands are: the cancellation of unauthorized promotions of craft instructors by court order, enforcing age restrictions for diploma engineering admissions, ensuring proper recruitment of diploma engineers in government and autonomous institutions, mandating qualified personnel for technical sector leadership positions, establishing a separate ministry for technical education reform, and founding a dedicated technical university for higher education.
The students affirmed that they will continue their movement in an organized manner and warned that future demonstrations will be even more rigorous.
