Two Anti-Discrimination Movement Activists Injured in Chhatra League Attack in Sunamganj

Sunamganj, April 29, 2025: Two activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were injured in an attack allegedly carried out by local Chhatra League members in Harikona village, Jagannathpur, Sunamganj. The incident occurred late Monday night (April 28) in the Syedpur Shaharpara Union.

According to police, the victims, identified as Md. Tayen Mia and Millat Khan, were fishing in a river near the village when they were attacked with sharp weapons by individuals allegedly affiliated with the Chhatra League. The injured were initially treated at Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where they remain under medical care.
Imonddoza, the convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Sunamganj, stated that the organization is investigating the motive behind the attack. "I have received pictures of the two injured activists. They are members of our movement," he said, adding that relatives of the victims confirmed the attackers were local Chhatra League members.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jagannathpur Police Station, Mahfuj Imtiaj Bhuiyan, said police visited the site after receiving news of the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have stemmed from prior enmity, but the police have not confirmed the political affiliations of either the attackers or the victims. No case has been filed in connection with the incident as of yet.
