Dhaka: In separate operations, the Department of Narcotics Control in Gopalganj arrested two drug dealers and seized 11 kg cannabis, BDT 1,05,000 in cash, and a digital scale used for weighing drugs.
The arrests took place on Tuesday (April 22) in Boro Gopinathpur village and Nokhri Char area under Sadar upazila.
Those arrested are Sonia Begum (36), wife of Kamrul Sharif from Boro Gopinathpur village, and Md. Obaidul (33), son of deceased Halim Sheikh from Nokhri Char village.
Assistant Director Mohammad Nabi Newaz of the Department of Narcotics Control stated that Inspector Kazi Md. Kamruzzaman led the raid based on secret information in Boro Gopinathpur village.
Upon sensing the operation, Kamrul Sharif managed to flee, but his wife Sonia Begum was arrested with 10 kg of cannabis. A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act at Gopalganj Sadar Police Station. Kamrul Sharif has multiple cases filed against him for drug-related offenses.
Earlier in the morning, another raid was conducted in Nokhri Char village, leading to the arrest of Md. Obaidul, who was found with 1 kg cannabis, BDT 1,05,000 cash, and a digital scale used for weighing drugs. A case has been filed against him under the same act.
