Dhaka, May 6, 2025 :The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a raid on the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) office in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar on Tuesday, following allegations of irregularities and financial misappropriation in the sale of government-supplied LPG cylinders. The ACC confirmed evidence of mismanagement and negligence during the operation.
According to the ACC investigation team, approximately 1.4 million government LPG cylinders are sold annually, but customers rarely receive them due to a syndicate allegedly diverting the supply. Officials from Padma and Yamuna Oil Companies, responsible for distributing the cylinders, failed to provide satisfactory explanations. The ACC noted that BPC officials deliberately avoided promoting government cylinders to facilitate corrupt practices.
BPC Chairman Md. Amin Ul Ahsan stated that he learned of the “alarming irregularities” through a Yamuna Television report. He assured that investigations are underway to determine if any BPC officials are involved.
The raid follows an investigative report by Yamuna Television’s Investigation 360 Degrees, which exposed the illegal sale of government LPG cylinders in the private market, leading to the misappropriation of billions of taka. In response, the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources formed a three-member committee to probe the issue.
