Armed Robbers Hijack Truck with 17 Cattle in Ishwardi

Ishwardi (Pabna), May 29, 2025: In a daring robbery, a gang of armed robbers intercepted a truck carrying 17 cattle on the Ishwardi highway in Pabna, holding the owner and driver hostage at gunpoint before fleeing with the livestock. The incident occurred around 4:30 AM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, on the Muladuli-Dashuria highway near the Muladuli rail gate.

According to local sources and police, the truck, loaded with 17 cattle, was en route from Chirirbandar in Dinajpur to Kushtia when a gang of 12-15 armed robbers, using a truck and a pickup van, blocked the vehicle. The robbers diverted the cattle truck onto a dirt road, tied up the cattle trader, Zia Hossain, and the driver, Nahid, and transported them in the pickup van toward Rajshahi. Another group of robbers fled with the truck and cattle toward Kushtia.
The robbers left Zia and Nahid tied up in a mango orchard in Rajshahi’s Charghat area. Local residents rescued them in the morning and alerted the police via the 999 emergency hotline. The victims subsequently filed a complaint at the Ishwardi Police Station, prompting immediate action.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Ishwardi Circle) Pronab Kumar confirmed the incident and stated that police recovered the empty truck in Kushtia later that afternoon. However, the 17 cattle remain missing. “After receiving the call from 999, we rescued the victims in the morning. The truck was recovered in Kushtia, and our operations are ongoing to apprehend the culprits and recover the cattle,” Kumar said.
Police have launched a manhunt to track down the robbers and recover the stolen livestock.
