Natore, May 29, 2025: The Bangladesh Army has apprehended five members of a syndicate involved in hacking the mobile application IMO in Lalpur, Natore. The arrests were made in the early hours of Wednesday, May 28, in the Bilamaria area of the upazila.
The detained individuals have been identified as Md. Bayezid, Latif, Raju, Sohan, and Shanto, all residents of the same area. According to army sources, the syndicate had been hacking IMO and other social media platforms for an extended period, primarily targeting expatriates to siphon off large sums of money through deceitful tactics.
Following specific intelligence, the army conducted raids on multiple residences in the Panshi area of Bilamaria, leading to the arrests. During the operation, authorities seized a laptop, over 70 SIM cards, 22 mobile phones, 40 pieces of Yaba (a narcotic drug), cannabis, and a voice-changing device used by the syndicate.
Confirming the incident, Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mominuzzaman told Dhaka Post that the army handed over the suspects to the police. He added that narcotics were also recovered from the detainees. A case has been filed, and the process to present the accused in court is underway.
