Dhaka, May 29, 2025: The University Teachers Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) has expressed satisfaction over the acquittal of BNP Acting Chairman Tareq Rahman in all cases filed against him. In a statement on Wednesday (May 28), UTAB President Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam and General Secretary Professor Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan conveyed this sentiment.
The statement noted that Tareq Rahman and his wife were acquitted by the High Court on May 28 in a case related to acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income. The verdict was delivered by a single bench of Justice Md. Khasruzzaman, which granted the appeal against the conviction.
UTAB leaders stated that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Tareq Rahman and others on September 26, 2007, with the intent to defame the Zia family. They further expressed that the teaching community is highly pleased with Tareq Rahman’s acquittal in all cases. They hope that Tareq Rahman will soon return to the country and resume serving the people.
