Bangladesh to Take No Additional Measures at India Border: Khalilur Rahman

May 6, 2025 : Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue, Bangladesh will not implement additional security measures along its border with India, stated Khalilur Rahman, the National Security Adviser to the interim government. Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, Rahman emphasized that there is no tension between Bangladesh and India, negating the need for enhanced border security.

The remarks came in response to a question about whether Bangladesh would bolster its border security in light of India’s increased measures due to its ongoing conflict with Pakistan. Rahman clarified, “We will take all necessary steps to ensure the security of our borders. However, there is no such tension with India, so we see no reason to take additional measures.”
The current India-Pakistan tension stems from a recent attack by gunmen in Pehelgam, Jammu-Kashmir, on April 22, which has escalated fears of potential conflict between the two nations. Following the attack, India has taken several steps, including canceling the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan.
