Panchagarh, May 18, 2025 – In a startling revelation, a bridge costing approximately half a crore taka is being constructed over a small canal in Tetulia Upazila of Panchagarh district, despite the absence of any connecting road. Following media reports, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted an on-site investigation.
On Sunday (May 18), a team led by Azmir Sharif Marzi, Deputy Director (Additional Charge) of the ACC’s Thakurgaon District Office, visited the construction site at Mondolpara in Tirnaihat Union. The team collected samples of construction materials, including stones, sand, cement, and rods, to assess their quality. They also conducted a preliminary investigation to verify the bridge’s measurements, design, and construction standards. Later, the team reviewed project documents at the Tetulia Upazila Executive Officer’s office.
According to local sources, the bridge is being built over a small canal near a graveyard in Mondolpara village, under the “Construction of Bridges up to 15 Meters on Rural Roads” project for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The project, implemented by the Upazila Project Implementation Office, has an allocated budget of BDT 43,36,022.
Azmir Sharif Marzi stated, “Following media reports and complaints, we conducted an on-site investigation. We have collected samples and relevant documents. Necessary actions will be taken after laboratory analysis of the samples.”
The raid was attended by Imran Hossain, Assistant Director of the ACC’s Panchagarh and Thakurgaon Combined Office, constables Abdus Samad and Shamim Hossain, and Al Amin, Assistant Engineer of the Upazila LGED.
