International, May 25, 2025 :In a bid to expand its global influence and strengthen strategic positioning, China is reportedly planning to establish military infrastructure in Bangladesh and several other countries, according to a recent claim by the United States. The US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) highlighted this in its newly released "Annual Threat Assessment" report.
The report states that China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) is actively planning to develop military infrastructure in Bangladesh, alongside nations such as Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Cuba, Kenya, Guinea, Seychelles, Tanzania, Angola, Nigeria, Namibia, Mozambique, Gabon, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Tajikistan.
According to the DIA, China's efforts are aimed at countering the United States' strategic influence and military presence globally. The report underscores Beijing's long-term goal of emerging as a dominant power in East Asia and competing with the US for global leadership. It further notes that China seeks to integrate Taiwan into its mainland, ensure economic stability and growth, and achieve technological self-reliance by 2050.
To achieve these objectives, China is adopting a multi-faceted approach involving diplomatic, military, informational, and economic strategies. The DIA report suggests that Chinese President Xi Jinping is preparing his nation to compete on equal footing with the US and its allies in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
Additionally, China is reportedly working to weaken trust in and the popularity of US-led military alliances. Beijing is closely monitoring changes in Washington's strategic policies and preparing measures to counter any actions that may undermine its interests.
The report also highlights China's potential to increase pressure on regions like the Philippines and Taiwan, which are perceived as threats to its security and sphere of influence. Through policy influence and criticism, China aims to position itself as an alternative global leader.
