Dhaka, May 26, 2025: With the slogan “All Citizen Services at One Address,” the “Citizen Services Bangladesh” initiative was launched today to deliver government services directly to citizens. The pilot project was inaugurated by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house Yamuna on Monday.
Trained citizen service entrepreneurs will provide services through Citizen Service Centers established in Dhaka’s Gulshan, Uttara, and Neelkshet areas. The Gulshan and Uttara centers have already begun operations, with the Neelkshet center set to start soon.
During the inauguration, Chief Adviser Yunus stated, “This initiative will play a transformative role in reducing the influence of middlemen, preventing harassment, and ensuring hassle-free citizen services.” He also directed the ICT Division to establish service centers for expatriates and emphasized fostering positive competition among ministries to enhance service delivery.
Yunus stressed, “We must ensure that every child receives a birth registration certificate immediately after birth, marking their recognition as a citizen.” He added that the centers will be operated by entrepreneurs responsible for rent, security, and maintenance. Failure to maintain service quality could lead to license cancellation.
Fayez Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, noted, “Implementing this project with zero budget proves that progress is possible by utilizing existing resources.” He revealed plans to transform underutilized government facilities, such as post offices, into modern co-working spaces managed by local entrepreneurs.
These centers will offer digital services, including national ID cards, passports, and tax filings, making government services more accessible. The initiative will also create opportunities for youth and women to become economically self-reliant while contributing to social and economic progress.
The project selected 100 entrepreneurs (50 women and 50 men) from 200 applicants through a rigorous process. They underwent intensive training in digital literacy, customer service, and digital service delivery before receiving certifications.
The inauguration was attended by senior officials, including the Election Commission Secretary, Land Ministry Secretary, ICT Division Secretary, Local Government Division Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Director General of the Immigration and Passports Directorate, and Director General of the National ID Wing.
