Deep Depression Weakens into Land Depression, Heavy Rainfall Likely in Six Divisions

Dhaka, May 30, 2025: The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has weakened into a land depression, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. Currently located over Tangail-Gazipur and adjacent areas, the depression is expected to move northward and weaken further over time. However, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely across various parts of the country due to its influence.

According to the weather forecast issued on Friday morning (May 30), the next 24 hours may bring moderate to very heavy rainfall in parts of Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Additionally, light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds, are expected in many areas of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions. The advancement of the southwest monsoon across Barisal, Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Dhaka, and Rangpur divisions is contributing to this rainfall activity.
Similar weather conditions are likely to persist on Saturday (May 31) and Sunday (June 1), with heavy rainfall expected in Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. On Monday (June 2) and Tuesday (June 3), light to moderate rain or thundershowers are forecast across the country, with a potential rise in daytime and nighttime temperatures by 1-3°C.
The Meteorological Department noted that daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged in the short term, though a slight increase may occur in the coming days. The public is advised to stay vigilant due to the potential for heavy rainfall.
