Dhaka, May 30, 2025 : A tragic incident occurred in Dhaka’s Shahbag area late Thursday night (May 29), where Mohammad Al Amin, a 35-year-old tailor, died after being electrocuted by a severed power line submerged in rainwater. The incident took place opposite the Secretariat near the Premier Market.
Al Amin, son of Mohammad Gafur Molla from Bati Lakshmipur village in Lakshmipur Sadar, was a resident of a rented house near Peer Yemeni Market. According to his colleague, Babul Reza, Al Amin was crossing the road when he accidentally came into contact with a live electric wire lying in accumulated rainwater, causing him to lose consciousness. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where emergency department doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Md. Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed that the body has been kept at the hospital’s morgue, and the matter has been reported to the concerned police station for further investigation.
The incident highlights the dangers of exposed electrical wires during heavy rainfall, raising concerns about urban safety and infrastructure maintenance in the capital.
