Rangpur, May 29, 2025: The residence of Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader, located in the Senpara area of Rangpur and known as “Sky View,” was attacked on Thursday night at approximately 9:00 PM. Assailants pelted the house with bricks, shattering windowpanes, and set a motorcycle ablaze. The attack left four people injured.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Majid Ali confirmed the incident, stating that police were deployed to the scene and the situation was under control. Jatiya Party activists attempted to repel the attackers, resulting in a chase and counter-chase between the two groups. As news of the incident spread, party supporters gathered outside the residence, prompting police to strengthen security in the area.
Earlier, at around 8:00 PM, members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement staged a protest march from the Rangpur Press Club, accusing GM Quader of being an ally of the Awami League. The march proceeded toward his residence in Senpara but later returned to Grand Hotel Mor, where the group continued their demonstration. The attack on Quader’s residence followed shortly after.
Nazim, president of Juba Sanghati, who was present at the residence, confirmed that GM Quader was at home during the attack and expressed outrage over the incident. Mostafizur Rahman, former Rangpur City Corporation Mayor and Jatiya Party Co-Chairman, condemned the attack as “unfortunate” and criticized the administration for its inaction.
SM Yasir, general secretary of Rangpur Metropolitan Jatiya Party, called the attack “heinous” and unprovoked, alleging involvement of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and National Citizen Party (NCP) activists. He reiterated the party’s commitment to peaceful politics and condemned the incident.
Lokman Hossain, senior co-president of Jatiya Party, stated that Quader was safe and that party activists were maintaining a vigilant presence around the residence. Imran Ahmed, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Rangpur, denied any involvement in the attack or arson, claiming the group only conducted a protest march and sit-in.
Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed that police were deployed to stabilize the situation. Earlier in the day, GM Quader had spoken to the media in Rangpur, expressing concerns about the interim government and ongoing issues involving the NCP, warning that the country was heading toward conflict.
