Gatherings, Protests Banned at Chief Justice’s , Residence, Supreme Court Gates, and 9 Other Locations

Dhaka, May 15, 2025: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on gatherings, assemblies, processions, demonstrations, and protests at nine key locations, including the official residence of the Chief Justice, the Judges’ Building, the Judges’ Complex, and the main gates of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. A public notification was issued on Thursday (May 15) to this effect.

The notification states that the ban has been enforced under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76) to maintain public order and ensure the safety of the Chief Adviser. The restricted areas include the Chief Justice’s official residence, the Judges’ Building, the Judges’ Complex, the Supreme Court’s main gate, Mazar Gate, Jame Masjid Gate, the entry gates of International Crimes Tribunals 1 and 2, and the area in front of the Judicial Administration Training Institute building. The ban is effective from Thursday and will remain in place until further notice.
The DMP further urged all concerned parties to refrain from blocking roads and disrupting traffic under the pretext of pressing demands or holding protest programs.
Previously, on May 10, the DMP issued a public notification banning gatherings, assemblies, processions, and demonstrations in and around the Secretariat, the Chief Adviser’s residence (Yamuna), and adjacent areas.
