Dhaka, May 10, 2025: Hasnat Abdullah, the Chief Organizer (Southern Region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), called on students and citizens to persist with the movement to ban the Awami League, regardless of any attempts to suppress it.
Speaking at a pre-announced public gathering in Shahbag, Dhaka, on Saturday afternoon, he emphasized the unwavering commitment to the cause, even in the face of potential conspiracies to silence him.
In a fiery speech, Hasnat declared, “I am announcing in advance: if any force tries to suppress my voice through conspiracy, do not abandon the streets until the Awami League is banned.” He highlighted the historical significance of Shahbag, stating, “Fascism began in Shahbag in 2013, and it is from Shahbag that fascism will fall. Our methods and paths may differ, but our stance on banning the Awami League is united.”
Addressing the challenges of sustaining the movement amidst scorching heat, Hasnat acknowledged his physical strain after two days of street protests, saying, “I could fall ill at any moment. But even if someone forces a statement from me to withdraw the movement under duress, you must continue the struggle.” He framed the current political landscape as a divide between “fascist forces” and “true Bangladeshi forces,” asserting that those who oppose banning the Awami League are fascist, while those who support it represent the spirit of Bangladesh.
Referencing the united movement initiated in July, Hasnat urged resilience, stating, “No matter the conspiracies, no one can break our united strength. Even if I cannot announce the next program, your ultimate goal must remain banning the Awami League.”
The rally, part of ongoing protests demanding the Awami League’s prohibition, caused significant traffic disruptions in Shahbag, leading to public inconvenience. Despite this, Hasnat’s call to action resonated with attendees, reinforcing the movement’s momentum.
