India and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire After Days of Cross-Border Clashes

New Delhi/Islamabad, May 10, 2025 – India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire following days of intense cross-border attacks, both nations confirmed on Saturday. The announcement comes after prolonged hostilities, marking a significant step towards de-escalation in the region.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated, “Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region. However, we have never compromised on our sovereignty and integrity.” The ceasefire, effective immediately, was welcomed as a move to restore calm along the volatile border.
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), U.S. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire on his social media platform, Truth. In a post, Trump wrote, “After a long night of negotiations mediated by the United States, I am thrilled to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire.” He congratulated both nations for their “sound judgment and extraordinary intelligence” in reaching the agreement.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio further confirmed the development, stating, “India and Pakistan have committed to an immediate ceasefire and will engage in discussions on various issues at a neutral venue.” In a post on the microblogging platform X, Rubio praised the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying, “We commend the wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship of Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Sharif in choosing the path to peace.”
The ceasefire has raised hopes for constructive dialogue to address longstanding issues between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, with the international community closely monitoring the situation.
