Japan to Provide Bangladesh with $1.06 Billion in Assistance

 

Dhaka, May 30, 2025 : Japan will provide Bangladesh with $1.063 billion (106 crore USD) in financial assistance to support budget aid, railway development, and grants. The information was disclosed in a statement issued by the press wing of the Chief Adviser on Friday, May 30.  

Of this amount, $418 million will be allocated as a development policy loan to support Bangladesh’s economic reforms and climate resilience initiatives. Additionally, $641 million will be provided to upgrade the Joydebpur-Ishwardi railway into a dual-gauge double line, while $4.2 million will be given as a grant for scholarships.
This assistance is expected to play a significant role in bolstering Bangladesh’s infrastructure development and economic stability.
