Tokyo, May 30, 2025: Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, in a meeting with Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, pledged support to address Bangladesh’s challenges and foster a prosperous and democratic nation. The leaders engaged in in-depth discussions on regional geopolitical dynamics.
Professor Yunus emphasized, “Our government is committed to maintaining the best possible relations with all neighboring countries.” He also expressed hope for a more active role from Japan in finding a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis.
Recalling his visit to Bangladesh 38 years ago for the inauguration of the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge, Prime Minister Ishiba stated, “Japan holds deep respect for Bangladesh and its people.” He also expressed interest in visiting Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
