Khulna, May 21, 2025: A joint operation by the police and Bangladesh Navy has led to the arrest of eight individuals involved in a job scam promising employment in the Navy, defrauding people of large sums of money. The arrests were made around midnight on Monday at Hotel Swift in the Sonadanga residential area of Khulna. During the operation, 38 job aspirants were also rescued and later handed over to their families.
The arrested individuals are: Ashikur Rahman, Shakil Ahmed, Md. Alhaj Ali, Nayan Ali, and Shamim Islam from Daulatpur Upazila, Kushtia; Farhad Mondal from Rajbari Upazila, Faridpur; Mostakim from Gangni Upazila, Meherpur; Riaz Molla from Mollarhat Upazila, Bagerhat; and Amirul Islam from Bagmara Upazila, Rajshahi.
According to Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Hai of Sonadanga Police Station, the scam was orchestrated around a recruitment exam scheduled at Bangladesh Navy’s Titumir in Khalishpur. The fraudsters lured job seekers from various districts, extorting large sums of money and even confiscating their mobile phones. The group had rented three rooms at Hotel Swift to carry out their scheme.
The joint operation recovered five mobile phones, 36 sets of Tk100 stamps, and several blank cheques. The scammers aimed to swindle Tk9-15 lakh from the victims. Early Tuesday morning, the Navy handed over the eight suspects to Sonadanga Police Station, where a case was filed against them by Navy official Md. Ariful Islam, Banouja PO (R). Legal action has been initiated.
