May 16, 2025, Munshiganj : In a shocking incident, two Saudi Arabia expatriates, Jomis Sheikh and Sujon Khan, were allegedly kidnapped and robbed of Tk 36.5 lakh by a gang posing as Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel in Munshiganj’s Srinagar area. The incident occurred on Thursday, May 15, around 7:00 PM at the Ferryghat area.
According to the victims, they were traveling from Dhaka to Balasur in Srinagar on a Nagar Paribahan bus. When the bus reached Ferryghat, a group claiming to be RAB officials stopped the bus, forcibly removed the duo, and took them away in a microbus. The kidnappers allegedly extorted Tk 25.2 lakh from Jomis Sheikh and Tk 11.3 lakh along with a mobile phone from Sujon Khan. The victims were later abandoned in Dhaka’s Abdullahpur area.
RAB-10 Bhagyakul Camp Company Commander Md. Anwar Hossain clarified that the perpetrators were not genuine RAB members but part of an organized criminal syndicate. RAB has already initiated efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Srinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shakil Ahmed confirmed that the victims visited the police station around 10:00 AM on Friday but have not yet filed a formal complaint.
