BSF Attempt to Push-In 750 People Thwarted by BGB and Locals in Brahmanbaria

Brahmanbaria, May 16, 2025 – A late-night attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push approximately 750 individuals into Bangladesh was foiled by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents at the Singarbil border in Brahmanbaria’s Bijoynagar Upazila.

The incident occurred around 2:00 AM on Thursday, May 15, when BGB’s 25th Battalion, acting on intelligence, took a vigilant stance along the border. Simultaneously, local representatives mobilized hundreds of residents from Singarbil, Bishnupur, Nolghoria, Merasani, and Noabadi villages through mosque announcements and social media appeals. Within hours, over a hundred locals gathered at the border, forcing the BSF to retreat without any confrontation, bringing the situation under control.
Bachchu Mia, a member of the Singarbil Union Parishad, said, “We received information from the BGB and immediately began announcements in the area. When the villagers gathered, the BSF had no choice but to back off.”
Mamun Chowdhury, another union member, added, “The BSF attempted to push people in secretly, but the presence of locals and the BGB’s firm stance compelled them to withdraw.”
Sadhana Tripura, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Bijoynagar, confirmed that the situation along the border is now calm, though the BGB and administration remain on high alert.
Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed, commanding officer of BGB’s 25th Battalion, stated, “Based on intelligence, we were prepared in advance. The involvement of local residents helped us prevent a major unwanted incident.”
Following the incident, the BGB has intensified patrols and surveillance along the border. While the swift response has brought relief to residents, concerns over border security persist.
