Mamunul Haque Urges Student Leaders to Avoid Political Disputes

Dhaka, May 23, 2025 : Mamunul Haque, Joint Secretary-General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, has advised student leaders to refrain from engaging in unnecessary political confrontations with leaders of political parties. Speaking at a protest rally organized by Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Dhaka Metropolitan unit at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Friday prayers on May 23, he emphasized the historic role played by students in the July-August uprising, stating that their sacrifices will be remembered for generations. He urged them to act responsibly and avoid conflicts that could undermine their legacy.

Haque called on major political parties, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, to play constructive roles from their respective positions. He expressed concern over the interim government’s failure to present a clear roadmap for reforms despite being in power for an extended period. He urged the interim government’s chief, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, to promptly announce a roadmap for constitutional, political, and electoral reforms, as well as a timeline for elections. He also stressed the need for legal action against members of the previous "fascist" government.
Addressing Dr. Yunus directly, Haque said, “You have taken on the responsibility of leading the nation. Personal grievances must not overshadow the dreams of 18 crore people. The blood of martyrs and the tears of mothers still linger. This is not the time for power struggles.” He cautioned political parties against issuing ultimatums or setting rigid timelines, urging them to adopt a tolerant and responsible stance to move the country forward.
Haque criticized the prevailing culture of mob-driven demands, warning that it could lead to the country’s destruction if unchecked. He accused remnants of the previous government and their supporters of attempting to destabilize Bangladesh through conflicts and urged unity to counter such conspiracies. He also announced Hefazat-e-Islam’s commitment to ensuring women’s rightful inheritance rights, vowing to launch social, religious, and political movements to address this issue if the state fails to act.
The rally concluded with a procession from Paltan to the Bijoynagar water tank area. Other Hefazat-e-Islam leaders also spoke at the event.
