Dinajpur, May 30, 2025 : In a recent incident in Parbatipur Upazila, Dinajpur, a leader of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), identified as Tarikul Islam, was apprehended by the Bangladesh Army while attempting to extort money by intercepting trucks. The suspect was later handed over to the Parbatipur Model Police Station for further legal action.
The incident occurred on Thursday night (May 29) along the Mithapukur-Phulbari road. Tarikul Islam, 40, a resident of West Rajabasar village and an organizer of the NCP in Parbatipur, was caught in the act of demanding extortion money. According to police sources, the army detained him around 7:45 PM when he and a few others blocked two trucks carrying scrap materials from the Barapukuria Coal Mine, which had been tendered to the Sena Kalyan Sangstha.
Upon receiving information about the extortion attempt, members of the local army camp swiftly responded, arresting Tarikul while his accomplices managed to flee. The army, along with RAB-13, handed him over to the Parbatipur Model Police Station. Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun of the Parbatipur Model Police Station stated that a case was filed against Tarikul by Ariful Islam, a representative of Sena Kalyan Sangstha, on the same night.
The authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the other individuals involved in the extortion attempt.
