Plane Loses Wheel During Takeoff, Safely Lands at Shahjalal Airport

Dhaka | May 16, 2025 : A Bangladesh Biman flight bound for Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar experienced a critical incident when one of its rear wheels detached during takeoff. Despite the alarming situation, the aircraft safely landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.

According to airport sources, the flight, identified as Biman’s 436-8, took off from Cox’s Bazar Airport at 1:20 PM and landed in Dhaka after 2:30 PM. The aircraft was carrying 71 passengers, including children, all of whom were reported safe following the incident.
Upon noticing the missing wheel, the pilot promptly informed Dhaka’s Air Traffic Control, requesting an emergency landing. Authorities at Shahjalal Airport immediately prepared for the situation, with ambulances and fire service vehicles on standby. Aviation experts noted that an aircraft can safely perform an emergency landing with one rear wheel, which contributed to the successful outcome.
An investigation into the cause of the wheel detachment is expected to follow.
