Dhaka, 17 May 2025: Starting from tomorrow, Sunday (18 May), all forms of gatherings, processions, rallies, demonstrations, and marches have been banned in several key areas of the capital, Dhaka. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced this in a press release on Saturday.
According to ISPR, the ban has been imposed to maintain public order and ensure uninterrupted movement of citizens. The restricted areas include Kachukhet Road, the stretch from Bijoy Sarani to the Chief Adviser’s Office up to the Birshreshtha Shaheed Jahangir Gate, the area from BAF Shaheen College to the Mohakhali Flyover, Sainik Club intersection, Bhashantek, Matikata, ECB Square, and their adjacent areas. This restriction will remain in effect until further notice.
Earlier, on Thursday (15 May), the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) had imposed similar restrictions in other parts of the capital. The areas listed in DMP’s notice include the official residence of the Chief Justice, the Justice Building, Judges’ Complex, the main gate of the Supreme Court, Mazar Gate, Jame Masjid Gate, the front of the Judicial Administration Training Institute, and the entry gates of International Crimes Tribunals 1 and 2.
Both ISPR and DMP have stated that these measures are aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining order in the capital.
