In Solonga, Ullapara of Sirajganj, three leaders of Jubo Dal and Krishak Dal were brutally beaten by enraged locals on allegations of demanding extortion. During the incident, 3-4 of their motorcycles were also vandalized. The incident occurred on Friday (May 16, 2025) afternoon in the Noipara area of Solonga Thana.
The injured leaders are Abdul Momin, joint convener of Solonga Thana Jubo Dal, member Roknuzzaman Khokon, and Sobhan Ali, member secretary of Solonga Thana Krishak Dal. According to local sources, a group of 8-9 individuals arrived in Noipara village on 5-7 motorcycles on Friday afternoon. They demanded extortion from Shahidul Islam during his pond excavation work. Infuriated by this, local men and women detained three of them and beat them severely, while the others managed to flee. The angry mob also vandalized 3-4 motorcycles.
Several videos of the incident have gone viral on social media, showing locals, including women, beating the leaders and damaging their motorcycles. Local residents Shahidul Islam and Arab Ali confirmed that three members of the group were detained, but the rest escaped.
Former president of Solonga Thana BNP, Matiar Rahman Sarker, stated that he was unaware of the details of the incident and would comment after gathering more information. Solonga Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir informed that, upon receiving the news, police went to the scene, rescued the detained leaders, and brought them to the police station.
