Dhaka, 16 May 2025 : Law enforcement agencies have arrested two youths in Dhaka along with a pistol and 16 rounds of ammunition stolen from the residence of a police officer in Chandpur’s Faridganj. The information was confirmed by Chandpur District Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Majibur Rahman on Friday (May 16, 2025) night.
The arrested individuals are Suman (35), son of the late Jalal Uddin Mazhi from Nesarabad, Jhalokathi, and Rubel Khan (36), son of the late Aziz Khan from Betagi, Barguna. On May 5, a personal pistol and 16 rounds of ammunition belonging to Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Rakib Uddin Bhuiyan were stolen from a fourth-floor flat in a five-story building located 50 yards from Faridganj Police Station. Following the incident, SI Rakib was attached to the district police lines and temporarily suspended.
The police launched an investigation and, after 12 days of continuous efforts, conducted a raid on Friday evening in the Turag City slum of Mirpur-1 under Shah Ali Police Station in Dhaka, arresting the main thief, Suman. Based on his information, with the assistance of Betagi Police Station in Barguna, Rubel Khan was arrested in the Sarishamuri area of Betagi, and the stolen pistol was recovered from him.
According to Faridganj Police Station sources, two suspects were identified by reviewing CCTV footage. The OC had announced a reward of one lakh taka for information leading to their capture. OC Majibur Rahman stated that a case is being filed against the arrested individuals under the Arms Act. Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfur Rahman said a departmental investigation against SI Rakib is underway.
