Dhaka, May 8, 2025 :Two young motorbike riders, Shubho and Abhi, were arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for misbehaving with a female police sergeant on duty in Dhaka’s Lalbagh area. The incident took place at Azimpur intersection on Wednesday, May 7, around 4:45 PM.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, citing the DMP Traffic-Lalbagh Division, stated that the sergeant stopped Shubho for riding without a helmet and asked for his driving license and vehicle documents. Instead of complying, Shubho and Abhi misbehaved with the sergeant and told her to accompany them to retrieve the documents.
The sergeant immediately informed Special Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman, who arrived at the scene and arrested the accused. With assistance from Lalbagh Police Station, they were taken into custody. In a summary trial conducted in the presence of the sergeant and witnesses, Shubho and Abhi were sentenced to one day in jail and fined Tk 2,000 each. Failure to pay the fine would lead to an additional seven days of imprisonment, as ordered by the magistrate.
