Court Orders Seizure of Dubai Flat and Freezing of Bank Accounts Belonging to Benazir Ahmed’s Daughter

Dhaka, May 8, 2025 : A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of a flat in Dubai and the freezing of two bank accounts owned by Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir, daughter of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, in connection with an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

On Thursday, May 8, Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order following an application submitted by the ACC, represented by its Deputy Director Joynal Abedin. The court’s decision is part of efforts to address allegations of illegal wealth accumulation and money laundering.
According to the ACC’s application, Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir is accused of acquiring assets beyond her known sources of income and illicitly transferring funds abroad. The commission stated that these actions constitute a criminal offense under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004. To prevent the transfer or disposal of the accused’s assets and to facilitate the repatriation of illicit funds from the United Arab Emirates, the court deemed it necessary to seize the immovable property (the flat) and freeze the movable assets (bank accounts).
The ACC’s investigation into Benazir Ahmed and his family has intensified in recent months, with prior court orders freezing multiple bank accounts, beneficiary owner (BO) accounts, and seizing properties, including flats in Dhaka’s upscale Gulshan area and vast tracts of land across Bangladesh. The former IGP and his family are under scrutiny for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to their declared income.
This latest court order marks a significant step in the ACC’s efforts to curb cross-border money laundering and recover assets acquired through corrupt practices. Further developments in the case are anticipated as the investigation continues.
